Dear CTM,
Happy birthday! You’re five years old today; getting so big. It feels like only yesterday that you were born in the hospital in Fort Worth and were handed to me by the doctor. I had tears in my eyes. My very own child. My very own daughter. I was so happy. So proud. So excited. You were the most beautiful baby girl in history. I want you to know how proud I am of you. You are obedient and respectful to your mom and dad. That’s a good way to start your life, because the Bible says God will bless you with a long life if you keep that up. And you are smart. You can count to high numbers – 20, 30, even 40! And you can write your name very clearly. You have a beautiful soprano voice, so I can’t wait to teach you guitar. I already have a great time singing with you. You know most of the praise songs we sing in church by memory. You are so sweet to your sisters. This morning as you were playing with your new birthday wand, J started crying because she wanted birthday presents today, too. You immediately gave her your wand and then held her in your arms. She was happy, and I was beaming with pride. You’ve come to understand nap time. That’s been hard for you, because I think you don’t want to miss anything. And I don’t think you need as much sleep as other kids. But now you go right to sleep. That makes Mom really happy. I’m really looking forward to this year with you. I’m going to teach you to ride a bike with no training wheels. And Mom’s going to teach you how to read books on your own. And who knows what else God has in store. I love you very much, C. You’re the best five year old in the world. And I’m the proudest dad in the world. Can you do me one favor this new year? Try not to grow so fast, or you’re going to be as tall as me! Either way, you’ll always be my little C. My first born child.
Happy Birthday,
Dad
