In school, one of the books we are reading is Ginger Pye.
The girls are loving it! I got a little ahead of myself and read too much, so we took off from reading a couple days to get back on track. You would have thought I punched my girls in the gut! They were so deflated. But we're back on track now.
The book - so far - is about a brother and sister who get a new dog. Since the girls know the closest they will ever get to having a real live dog in this home is Percy, the dog figurine that sits on the mantle, they really immerse themselves into this book.
Today we read about how the brother loved apple sandwiches. Gasp! We had never heard of such a thing. Thankfully, the book was complete with instructions, and we decided we just had to give it a try for lunch. It was a huge success. Of course, I'm sure it helped that Mom sprinkled a little cinnamon sugar on top.
