3 Rules

 Nap-time Fail Success
Getting any child to sleep during the middle of the day (or even night) can easily become a nightmare for many parents.  Now attempt to make six children sleep for two hours, in the same room!
Thankfully I've learned a few tricks along the way.  We have three rules at nap-time.  And I give the kids complete freedom to do whatever they want, as long as they obey the rules.  I don't care if they fall asleep or not.  But they must obey the rules.
  1. Do not talk.
  2. Do not open your eyes.
  3. Do not move.
Like I said, do as you like, just don't break a rule.  ;)

And the kids do really well with this.  The younger children usually fall asleep.  Even M and J snooze most of the time.  C has developed great personal discipline by forcing herself to be super still and super quiet for 2 hours every day.  Eventually the kids will be allowed to read during these two hours, but we're not quite ready to handle the extra temptation of books.

On this particular day, little E was struggling with the rules - all of them.  So she found herself taking a nap on the floor.  Here's proof that initial failure can be transformed into success.
